A first look at Google TV's new apps [GigaOM]
Recently Google opened up development for Google TV specific apps with the release of an SDK for the Android-based platform. And now a number of apps have started showing up on the Android Market that are specifically designed for Google TV.
The apps run the gamut from big names like the Wall Street Journal, CNN, CNBC, and QVC to smaller developers with less predictable apps. Some of these smaller apps include "Call Toaster" which can display an Android phone's caller ID and text messages directly on the TV screen. Another small developer app, "aVia," allows content on various devices within a home network to be streamed to the screen.
Google announced a next generation of Google TV back at the Google I/O conference in May. Google TV 2.0 is expected to run the latest version of Honeycomb, which will allow for the use of these new apps. The influx of these new apps on the market suggests we might be seeing that new version of Google TV very soon.
