Apple's iPad is eating notebooks for lunch [GigaOM]
A recent report from Deutsche Bank sheds new light on just how significant the iPad's impact has been on the traditional computer market.
The report looks at notebook computer sales among the top six manufacturers – Acer, Apple, ASUS, Dell, HP, and Samsung. Until the second quarter of 2011, the iPad had not been included in the figures and Apple was last among the 6 manufacturers at just over 5% of the market.
However, Deutsche Bank included another entry in its report for the second quarter which included iPad sales. With iPads included, Apple jumps easily to the top of the chart with over 20% of the market while the next highest manufacturer, HP, drops to nearly 15%.
As all other manufacturers continue their attempts to create a competitive tablet device, Apple is quickly taking over the mobile-computing market. Rumors of a potential unified OS for all of its devices – Macs, iPads, iPhones, iPods – only strengthen the notion that Apple is likely to continue its major investment in the medium, and will shape the market for the foreseeable future.

Though it didn't mention the iPad by name, PC maker Dell did say that "alternative mobile computing devices" had an impact on its sales.
