Amazon cloud outage downs Netflix, Quora [CNET News]
A few months ago, Amazon Web Services – the company's data center and cloud computing service – experienced an extended outage that affected many tech startup websites that rely on Amazon's cloud.
Amazon recently experienced another outage to its cloud services, which has affected startups once again, along with a few larger companies. Netflix and Foursquare were knocked offline by the outage that occurred at Amazon's Virginia operations center that handles all East Coast computing.
Startups Quora and Reddit were also affected by the outage. They were also among the sites that suffered as a result of the April outage.
Fortunately, this outage only lasted for 25 minutes before Amazon had things back up and running. In April, the outage continued for two days.
Amazon has completed its recovery efforts from the extended crash of its popular cloud-computing services, but there will be lasting damage.
