Malicious apps removed from Android Market [CNET News]
Google has made a second round of mass application removals from the Android Market. Mobile security firm Lookout reported that Google removed around two dozen apps over the weekend due to concerns that they contained malware that had the ability to compromise personal data.
Lookout indicated that between 30,000 and 120,000 Android users had installed one or more of the apps that were removed.
While Google has yet to respond to the most recent report, earlier this year the company removed 58 malicious apps from the Market in addition to removing them from Android devices that had copies of the apps at issue. Because any developer can upload an app to the Android Market without a review process, Android devices are more vulnerable to malware than Apple's iOS walled garden.
