Bing gains on Google's search share from December to January

When it comes to search market share, Google is still in position of huge unquestioned dominance, but recent numbers released by net metrics firm comScore indicate that Microsoft's Bing is making small gains against the search giant. According to comScore, from December of last year to January, Google lost one point of search market share, dropping from 66.6 to 65.6 percent. At the same time, Bing moved from 12 percent to 13.1.

While a point of search share may not seem like a lot, consider that web users in the U.S. performed 16.9 billion searches during January. That's nearly 170 million monthly searches moving from Google to Microsoft. 

Experian's Hitwise report for January tended to confirm the comScore data, showing a drop in traffic to Google and an increase in Bing's.
