Net-Connected TVs 21% Of Global Unit Shipments In 2010 [Multichannel News]
3D televisions haven't posted large sales numbers in their first year of availability, but broadband-connected television sales are a different story. Research firm DisplaySearch has reported that 21 percent of all TV sales worldwide in 2010 were broadband enabled. That equates to 43.9 million television sets that have the ability to connect to the Internet.
DisplaySearch projects that number to nearly triple - to 122 million - in 2014.
But, a separate NPD survey indicates that less than half of viewers with a broadband-connected set actually use the feature. Only 45 percent of consumers with a television that can connect to the Internet have used it to stream online video or other content. Of those that have used that capability, 57 percent said they were 'very satisfied' with that feature.
And, forgive me for this commercial, Insight's speedy Broadband service is a perfect way to make those TV's work great when you want to view programs from the Internet.
