A friend was rtelncey upgraded to 8MB (he's in South Queensferry). So good, he's had to resort to dialup due to a connectivity problems. I think he was quoted a week before the system will settle down to a more acceptable error rate.Good luck!I'm on 8MB, but haven't really abused it yet.

The usual figure quteod as a ball park for retrofitting fibre to doorstop is USD 500 per household in urban areas.The US has over 100 million households, but 100 million will do for the maths.So cost is roughly a twentieth the amount of money Congress authorized to be used on Friday bailing out the banking sector. Good enough for planning purposes. I expect the initial costs would be higher per household, but economies of scale would kick in as such projects are undertaken.The private sector can do this easily if there is demand. You can borrow (assuming anyone has money to loan in the US) the money. 10USD a month is 120USD a year, at 5% interest you can borrow enough to cable up two houses and pay off the build in a few years with the income from the second household. Obviously they'll be other expenses above cabling to provide high speed broadband, but an extra 10USD a month for REALLY fast Internet access is plausible for many US households. Indeed once the current generation of roll out is paid for, it won't be 10USD extra, since the current pricing no doubt includes charges for the build of the existing infrastructure. Although the current infrastructure is significantly cheaper than fibre to doorstep.

Hi Michael, nice blog you have.In case you'd pass through Belgium, you could make use of the thsonauds of Telenet Hotspots all over the country (a password for free access could be arranged).Telenet also offers prepaid solutions.In the Netherlands it seems fairly easy to find non-secured wifi-networks (or maybe I was just lucky). There's almost no traffic limitation there, so maybe for that people care less about securing their network. Otherwise T-Mobile offers prepaid broadband (4.50 euro/day), and KPN has hotspots all over the country as well.As for Spain, the only thing I know is that the camping park of Zaragoza offers free wifi. Listen INSIGHT we don't need more download we need more upload!!! 20meg fits more than enough of ppl's needs currently. For people who want to stream HQ video, etc... don't want to pay 50 meg prices just to get the higher uploads. Cut us us some slack and meet us somewhere in the middle...

Laughable at best.

There should be two tiers of 25 and 50 MB and it should be a dollar per megabyte + 5 dollars a month.

You're pricing yourselves right out of business.

Maybe one day you will see an upgrade as a way to make your service a better value for your customers rather than a way to squeeze more out of them.

$60 more than my 10.0? No thanks. Then again, I'm really not the right market for this product, since I didn't even think it was worth $10 more per month for the 20.0. 10 Mbps serves me just fine.

Dave, I think that's what they're counting on. If I'm not mistaken for the first time in history the cable industry lost subscribers in back-to-back quarters. Cable execs can spin it all they want, it's never happened before. I think Insight is slowly but surely transitioning away from cable and towards data. They realize cord-cutting isn't a fad or something for the techies... they're trying to move to stay relevant, something phone companies didn't do when folks were switching to cell phone only. They denied denied and denied and now they're dying. Cincinnati Bell is a great example. I know in my house I have 2 devices for streaming and within the next 6 months plan to add 2-3 more.

Unless your on the net downloading and uploading a ton of data the 50meg service just isn't worth it.

I would have been happier with a 20 Mbps/down and 6 Mbps/up.

Sounds like a lot of Money for something you will never use. Perhaps maybe if you’re a HD sling boxer or video conference guru or want to watch Netflix on 10 tv’s.

Let’s assume insight has two-three GIG-E links
(1) Level 3
(2) Sprint
(3) Misc

So that’s a total of 3,000 Mbps

So that means only 60 customers could achieve 50 Mbps at the same time out of 766,200 total customers.

I switched from DSL to Insight about 3 months ago so far happy service has gone out a few times . However I do notice that during peak times I get nowhere close to 10 Mbps.

However I am very glad that insight has local people answering the phone not to say they are perfect but a hell of a lot better than ATT.

I know this will never happen but maybe someday insight will drop the coax and build us a nice GEPON network.

It's around 46.95 for 10.0 + $10 for 20.0 (Actually $12, they jacked my 20.o upgrade of 10 bucks to 12 for some reason) so I'd be paying around $110 just for 50.0 in total let alone CableTV services tacked on the end. That's a lot...no thanks. Tempting.

To follow up on my last post. The tech (who is outsourced) was awesome. He figured out what it was where tier 2 couldn't. The internet is now blazingly fast.

I never said the email stated "10.0", it was the rep on the phone. As for 10 price, not sure how much it costs as I haven't had that in a loooong time.

What a joke. The tech can't get 50.0 working. It would only get 20.0 so He called tier 2 support and at the end of the call nothing is working. Tier 2 support said they have more pressing issues to work on and told him to call his boss.

Ryan, there is no mention of 10.0 in your e-mail.You are paying Ten dollars more per month for 20.0 than 10.0, so for ABOUT Fifty dollars more per month for 50.0 your paying seventy dollars more than 10.0

I got the same email. It says it would be ABOUT 50 more than 20.0. When I called she said it would be about 60 more than 10.0. Not misleading, but it did throw me off for like 1.2 seconds. I signed up for it and getting it installed tomorrow. 50.0 here I come.

I just would be nice if you could use your own DOCSIS 3.0 modem and save some cost.

Well I did call that number and three people later I was told that that service would be in fact SIXTY dollars I mentioned the e-mail price and was told the magic word was ABOUT fifty dollars, well it sounds like that should have been $60 all along.Insight get a clue, you mailings and e-mails to customers should be honest, not vague or misleading, that is why I quit my cable TV, now this. Shame on you Michael.
