Comcast to broadcast Masters in 3-D [CED Magazine]
The nation's largest cable provider is set to take 3D out for a test drive next month at the Masters golf tournament. Comcast has announced that it will broadcast two hours of Masters coverage in 3D each day of the tournament from Augusta National on April 7-11. Comcast customers with 3D capable televisions can watch the coverage for free through a dedicated channel for the event.
The broadcast will mark the first live next-generation 3D coverage of a major sporting event on television.
Users with a 3D media player, 3D glasses and a 3D monitor connected to a PC will also be able to watch Comcast's 3D coverage via the Masters web site.
According to Comcast's Derek Harrar Comcast's 3D coverage will feature different angles from the traditional HD coverage that ESPN and CBS will carry. Harrar says Comcast's testing of the 3D technology brings viewers a more "unique, immersive perspective" of the action.
