Netgear expands Digital Entertainer line with the EVA2000 Digital Entertainer Live [EngadgetHD]
Netgear is rolling out a new set-top box that promises to bring user videos in just about any format to the television screen along with web video from YouTube and other online sources. Called the EVA2000, the box connects to high definition televisions via an HDMI cable and connects to a broadband connection via an Ethernet port. For users with a wireless network, a wireless adapter can be purchased separately from Netgear that will allow the EVA2000 to stream web video wirelessly.
The set-top comes with its own remote control, but it doesn't contain any internal storage for users' media. Instead, users can connect a USB drive or portable hard drive that contains the media that they want to play via the set-top on a television.
If you're looking for Hulu, Netflix or CBS programming, you'll have to subscribe to the PlayOn service to get those options. Purchasers of the EVA2000 get a free trial and a discount on the PlayOn subscription. So, even though Hulu and CBS programming is free on the web, you'll be paying to access it on the EVA2000.
Still, it seems like a neat option for videophiles looking for an easy way to move digital content from their computers to their their television screen.
