Amazon Orders Another Million Kindle Fires [All Things D]
The Kindle Fire expands on the well-established Kindle e-reader by adding the full color and functionality of a tablet device, including a web browser, apps from the Amazon App Store, and the ability to play movies, music, TV shows, and more.
Research companies ChangeWave and RBC Capital Markets conducted a survey of 2,600 people and found that 5% had either pre-ordered or were very likely to order a Kindle Fire. That number may not seem too impressive, but when the iPad first came out only 4% of respondents answered that they were very likely to order the product from Apple.
According to these high demand reports, if Amazon can get enough units ready to ship they may exceed the release of the first iPad – helping their case to become the first true iPad competitor in the tablet market.
