OuchPad: Best Buy Sitting on a Pile of Unsold HP Tablets [All Things D]
Since it's launch, HP has had trouble selling the TouchPad. After its launch, HP cut the price twice. And a steep price mark down on the discount site Woot.com only attracted 612 interested customers in the TouchPad.
Now Best Buy is claiming they have received roughly 270,000 TouchPads in their stores but have only been able to sell 25,000. Best Buy wants HP to take the rest of the tablets back. TouchPad sales are reportedly failing to sell at many other big-box retailers too, including Wal-Mart.
HP isn't the only tablet manufacturer with lukewarm sales in the wake of the runaway success of Apple's iPad. One recent sales forecast predicted the iPad would encompass nearly 70 percent of tablet sales this year.
