Facebook Climbs to No. 3 Video Site in U.S. [TechCrunch]
Facebook is already the largest photo site in the U.S. and now has moved into third place in overall number of unique viewers for online video. In the month of July, Facebook logged 51.5 million unique video views. This number passed Microsoft, Yahoo, and Viacom, which had all topped Facebook in this category in previous months.
Now Facebook trails Vevo which had 62 million monthly views in July and Google/YouTube which had 158 million.
It's entirely feasible, and even expected, that Facebook will pass Vevo in the near future, but the big question will be whether they can ever truly challenge Google/YouTube. This appears to be an even more difficult feat when you compare entire viewing sessions as opposed to individual views. YouTube accounts for a whopping 43 percent of all U.S. viewing sessions and had roughly 3 billion of these session in July alone. Facebook only had only 186 million viewing sessions in July.
