Data: Live Video Streaming Up 600% [MediaPost]
Web metrics firm comScore has released a study that indicates the total minutes spent viewing live streaming video has increased 648 percent in the past year to encompass 1.4 billion minutes. comScore's study tracked sites like USTREAM and Justin.tv that provide users the ability to stream video content live to audiences via web cams and mobile devices. Compared to YouTube's 68 percent and Hulu's 75 percent growth during the same time period, it's clear that demand for live streaming video is growing at a faster pace.
However, actual numbers of site viewers for live streaming sites remains much smaller than sites like Hulu and YouTube. comScore reports that USTREAM had 3.2 million viewers during the month of July, trailed by Justin.tv with 2.6 million and Livestream with 2.4 million. Compare that to over 28 million during the same month for Hulu and 143 million for YouTube.
