Sony Reportedly To Launch 2 Movie Channels Later This Year [WSJ]
The Los Angeles Times is reporting that Sony will be introducing two new cable movie channels later this year. According to the report, the two channels have a tentative launch date of October 1.
First, Sony will launch its first ever wholly-owned U.S. cable movie channel, Sony Pictures Movies HD. This channel would not be a premium movie channel like HBO and Showtime, but would rather be a basic cable service.
The second announced Sony channel is FearNet, which is actually a joint venture between Sony, Comcast and Lionsgate. FearNet has previously been available as an on demand service (including on Insight On Demand) and focuses 100% on horror films. Sony apparently has plans to turn FearNet into a full-fledged cable channel.
