Engadget is closely following ESPN's development of what is expected to be the first network with three dimensional programming. According to this report, ESPN 3D tested live 3D production at a recent Harlem Globetrotters game in Orlando, Florida. The game was carried on ESPN2, and the ESPN crews shot 3D with specialized cameras alongside the traditional cameras. 3D video production was done in the same truck as the ESPN2 broadcast.
ESPN 3D's planned debut will occur at this summer's World Cup in South Africa. ESPN has indicated that it expects to air a minimum of 85 sporting events in 2010 in 3D in addition to World Cup games. This article indicates that NBA basketball is expected to be among those 85 3D broadcasts.
