iPad to hit the U.S. on April 3 [CNET News]
It's existence was announced six weeks ago, and now there's a definitive date when the Apple iPad will be available for purchase. Apple has announced that iPads will go on sale in its retail stores on April 3rd, and customers who can't wait until next month can pre-order online starting on March 12th.
Apple has said that there will be two versions of the iPad, one that is wi-fi only and another that is wi-fi and 3G wireless (for data only). The April 3rd units will only be the wi-fi units with the 3G devices coming out later in the month, according to Apple. Future iPad users also can reserve the wi-fi version to be picked up at their local Apple store.
The iPad runs a newer version of the same operating system that runs on Apple's iPhone and iPod Touch. It promises to bring a larger screen and additional features to the iPhone OS experience.
