Study: Almost Half of U.S. Households Have HDTVs [NewTeeVee]
A new study from Leichtman Research Group indicates that since 2007, the number of U.S. households with an HDTV has nearly doubled. According the LRG's study, 46 percent of homes now have an HDTV, with 38 percent of HDTV homes having more than one set. Sixty-four percent of high def households get their HD programming from a multi-channel video provider, like Insight. That's an increase of six percent over a similar study conducted last year.
But, not everyone with an HDTV is watching their programming in HD. An unfortunate 14 percent of HDTV homes aren't watching high definition programming, either over-the-air or from a cable provider. NewTeeVee reports that HDTV homes are likely to increase substantially over the holiday season, with another survey showing that fully 30 percent of Black Friday shoppers indicating that a HDTV set was on their shopping list.
