Movie studios curbing actors' use of social media [CNET News]
It may make the world a bit less interesting, but Hollywood studios apparently are starting to crack down on movie stars' Twitter habits and other social media usage. I wrote about one Hollywood waiter that lost his job in a social media snafu with an HBO actress a couple of weeks ago. Now, actors like Cameron Diaz and Mike Myers are reportedly signing contracts with clauses that limit their social media usage, perhaps even prohibiting it entirely.
According to CNET, a Hollywood Reporter blogger has uncovered that Dreamworks and Disney have begun to include clauses in their contracts that put curbs on the online profiles of their acting talent. CNET speculates that the contract clauses are aimed at preventing stars leaking confidential information about upcoming shows and movies to the general public.
So, keep an eye on your favorite actor or actress' Twitter feed. Chances are it may not be as active in the future if studios keep their targets trained on preventing social media leaks.
