Switching to Windows 7 [Sherman's Security Blog]
Planning to upgrade your computer's operating system in the next few months? If you're a Mac user, you've probably seen the news about the Apple's planned release of Mac OS X version 10.6, known as Snow Leopard, set for release this Friday. The upgrade will offer Mac users additional features, including built-in compatibility with Microsoft Exchange and a faster Safari web browser.
For PC users, Microsoft is planning an October 22nd release of Windows 7, the replacement for Windows Vista. According to Sherman, Microsoft will provide a discounted copy of the new OS to new PC buyers that purchase a machine with Windows Vista before the release date. Other users will be able to purchase full copies of the new OS at an "upgrade" price between the release date and the end of this year.
For users that purchase and install Windows 7, Sherman cautions that the install is a complete install - meaning that it's a good idea to back up critical data on your computer before beginning the installation.
