Time Warner Cable Tees Up 'TV Everywhere' Shot [Multichannel News]
Last month, Comcast, the nation's largest cable operator, announced a trial of On Demand Online for 5,000 of its customers, providing streaming cable programming via an online portal. This week, Time Warner Cable is announcing it is starting its own trial of authenticated online video content with 5,000 customers in several markets.
According to an article in yesterday's Wall Street Journal, Time Warner Cable's TV Everywhere is expected to include NBC Universal's Syfy (formerly SciFi), Time Warner Inc.'s TNT, Rainbow Media's AMC, CBS, HBO, TBS and BBC America. Discovery and Viacom offerings are also expected to be in the online lineup.
Time Warner Cable chairman, president and CEO Glenn Britt said of the TV Everywhere trial:
While Time Warner Cable and Comcast are only trialing their authenticated online content for a limited number of users, these tests have a lot of promise of value-added content for all their cable customers in the future.
