Nielsen: Overall Stats Up, Bing Gets Dinged on Streams [NewTeeVee]
Online video numbers were way up for the month of July based on the latest Nielsen VideoCensus, with over 11 billion online video streams being served up in the U.S. for the month. Compared to July of 2008, the number of videos viewed online is up over a staggering 30 percent, with each user averaging 82 streams and 211 minutes of online viewing for the month.
Nielsen estimates that there were nearly 136 million unique users viewing online video in July, that's up just over one percent from a month earlier.
Google's YouTube portal continues to lead the pack of sites serving video, accounting for 7 billion of the 11 billion streams served and 104 million unique viewers. Hulu, which ranked second on the total number of streams served in July with 383 million, actually lost unique viewers in July. Hulu had 10.3 million viewers in July, down from 10.6 billion in June. So, while Hulu's audience is watching more content, it shrank month-to-month, according to Nielsen. YouTube had substantial growth over June, logging nearly a billion more video views and 5 million more viewers.
