Cisco's Chambers: Video Will Be 90% of Network Traffic [Bit Rate]
Every day we're seeing the signs of the increase in the percentage of network traffic that comes from online video. Yesterday, Cisco held their quarterly earnings call to inform stockholders about the company's performance over the previous three months. During the call, Cisco CEO John Chambers commented on the future of video growth on the Internet. Chambers said:
Ninety percent? Wow! With the growth of online video and cable operators employing IPTV technology, it wouldn't surprise me if we're looking at Chambers' prediction becoming reality in a few short years. He's also correct that networks will need intelligence to ensure the proper delivery of the video content that users' want. As more and more people look to the Internet to watch television and movies, responsible network management will become even more critical to allow each user an enjoyable viewing experience.
