March Madness Scores 7.52M Uniques [NewTeeVee]
The 2009 Men's NCAA Basketball Tournament was a huge success for CBS Sports March Madness on Demand video streaming site. Yesterday, CBS released viewership and advertising revenue data from the online venture. The release revealed that 7.52 million unique visitors watched the tournament from the site, an increase of 58 percent over 2008. 8.6 million hours of streaming video and audio were consumed by those visitors, growing 75 percent over last year.
CBS increased advertising revenue for March Madness on Demand by 30 percent, generating $30 million from the streaming video advertisements that ran during commercial breaks in the action. Many users watched the site's video from third-party web sites, like YouTube. Just under half of all visitors used the CBS site to watch the tournament.
