Reported last week at Cable Digital News, CableLabs president and CEO Dr. Dick Green made remarks at NXTComm 2008 inviting telcos to participate with cable operators in the Tru2Way standard.
While there may be some doubts about whether the telcos would adopt a standard developed by cable, the widespread integration of Tru2Way by consumer electronics manufacturers may cause the telcos to give Tru2Way more than a passing glance. I posted a few weeks ago about the showcase of Tru2Way at the Cable Show and the recent agreement between cable operators and Sony on Tru2Way.
Cable Digital News has a good story on a number of other consumer electronics manufacturers that signed on with the Tru2Way standard after the Sony announcement.
Despite reports that Tru2Way devices had some trouble meeting the CableLabs rigorous testing standards, the rollout of certified Tru2Way devices is expected to remain on schedule. Some cable operators are planning rollouts of Tru2Way boxes this year.
Now the question is, when will the telcos follow suit?
